A water-thinnable acrylic from the Air Series aircraft range by AK interactive. The paint comes in a consistency ready for spraying, so it goes into the airbrush straight from the bottle. It is not a lacquer: it is thinned and cleaned with water or with the acrylic thinner of the same brand. According to the manufacturer the shade is meant as an overall gray for models of the MiG-25 and MiG-31 types, that is for the large continuous areas of the wing, the fuselage and the fins.
A uniform gray over a large area looks flat, and this is exactly where modulation helps. The procedure is simple and calls for no mixing of dozens of shades: lay the base coat over the whole surface, then make a lighter version from the same paint with a drop of white and spray it only over the centers of panels and the surfaces light would fall on from above. Keep the difference between base and light small, because one marked jump looks like a blotch, whereas three barely perceptible steps look like volume. For the shadow, do not use black but darken the base toward a cooler tone, otherwise the surface turns ashen. Finally even the transitions out with a thin coat of the original shade laid over the whole part, which pulls both sides back together.
For modelers who build models of the types named and want to work with an airbrush. The shade is built as a factual base, not as an effect, so the final character of the surface is created by layering.
Shake thoroughly before use. Ventilate while spraying, use respiratory protection and keep out of the reach of children.
