Minium Red Surface Primer 100 ml — a colored primer from AK Interactive

A base paint, not a kit and not a weathering product. It is an acrylic, that is water-thinnable, primer of the third generation range from AK Interactive in a 100 ml bottle. The shade refers to minium, that is red lead — the red-orange anti-corrosion base paint with which steel structures, ship hulls and vehicle chassis were coated for decades. In modeling this tone is used in two ways: as a classic base improving adhesion and as a visible layer under the final finish, which is then revealed by chipping.

Use

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before work, because the pigment settles
• Apply in thin coats with an airbrush, because a heavy coat floods engraved lines
• Let it cure and only then mask or sand it
• It is thinned with the same manufacturer's thinner for acrylics, not with lacquer thinner
• An ideal base for the chipped paint technique, where a red base layer is meant to show through
