Six gray-green tones of the Brazilian Air Force across three generations of finish, from the two-color gray of the 1990s to today's tactical standard.
Responsibility details are not available.
The six shades are arranged chronologically. They show how the Brazilian Air Force view of what an aircraft should hide in the sky changed over thirty years.
The newest layer consists of European I Green (FS34092) and Mod Eagle Grey (FS36176). They belong to the finish known as the new tactical standard, which almost the whole combat fleet wears today and which is planned for the Gripen in its upgraded form as well.
The middle generation is a two-tone gray, worn until 2005 by the turboprop EMB T-27 Tucano trainer and light combat aircraft and by the AMX A-1A and A-1B attack aircraft. It is made up of Atlantic Grey (FS36187) and Pearl Grey (FS36493) and looks markedly lighter than today's standard.
Two separate colors represent the oldest group. Sky Grey (FS36463) comes from the 1990s and was worn by the F-5s of one particular fighter squadron repainted in Brazil itself. Air Defence Grey (FS16473) is by contrast the color of the large aircraft - transports, tankers and radar reconnaissance machines - and at the same time the shade in which the F-5 left the factory.
The six bottles therefore cover not one scheme but three, and a gradual shift from lighter tones toward darker and less conspicuous ones can be traced between them.
Anyone building one type in two periods gets both variants out of a single box. The difference between the light pair used until 2005 and today's finish shows up well in a display case even in a small scale, because not only the tone changes but the overall contrast of the scheme as well.
