This set from Quinta Studio belongs among the three-dimensional (3D) interior decals. On a decal backing paper sit cockpit panels shaped in relief and already finished in color: instrument panels, side consoles, controls and placards. In the large 1:35 scale the cockpit is particularly visible, so the detail pays off. It is not a helicopter kit but an accessory for one.
The AH-64D is a combat helicopter with a two-man crew in tandem, that is the pilot and the weapon systems operator one behind the other. Visually it is set apart by the mast-mounted radar above the main rotor head. Both stations are densely packed with instruments and displays, which in 1:35 scale means a large area that would otherwise have to be painted by hand.
Fit the panels before you close the fuselage halves, while the cockpit is still freely accessible, and do it on a smooth, degreased surface. Paint the surrounding areas in advance. Three-dimensional decals behave differently from conventional wet decals, so follow the instructions supplied in the package and do not carry over habits from ordinary decals. Specifically: a decal softener is not used here, as it would attack the printed resin. Let everything dry thoroughly before you close the canopy and dry-fit the parts first so that the panels sit the right way round in both stations.
