This is a finished handmade model tree from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a kit and not a loose scenery material — the tree is made, foliated and ready to be planted straight into a diorama, a layout or a display case. The height runs roughly between 180 and 220 mm, and it is the tall bare trunk with a high-set crown that defines this version. Because every piece is made by hand, small differences in the shape of the crown and the branching are natural and only do the look good.
The larch is an unusual conifer — unlike the spruce and the pine it sheds its needles for the winter. It grows fast and tall, its trunk is straight, and in a closed stand the lower branches break off early, so exactly that typical tall clean trunk with the crown set high is what results. In Central Europe it is found in mountain and foothill forests, in mixed stands and in avenues. The summer needles are a light fresh green and softer than those of a spruce.
A tree of this height reads as dominant in a scene, so allow for it when designing the composition — it works best off the axis, as a framing element rather than in the middle. Sink the trunk into the terrain and hide the foot with turf, leaf scatter and small vegetation, so that the transition does not show. A tall trunk also allows a view under the crown, so it is worth finishing off the area beneath the tree. For greater naturalness, shape the branches slightly by hand and add fallen needles on the ground around the foot.
This is a finished scenery element, not a kit. The terrain substrate, the glue, the turf and any further vegetation are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
