This is a tool for the modeling bench, not a model. The knife is used to separate parts from the sprue, to clean up sprue nubs, to remove mold parting lines and for small shaping of plastic. Use

• Never cut a part off flush with the surface; leave a short stub and only level that in a second step.
• Cut by drawing, not by pressing from above; the blade then does not slip and the plastic does not splinter.
• Check the edge as you go; a blunt blade tears the plastic rather than cutting it and leaves white stress marks.
• Always work on a cutting mat and guide the knife away from your other hand.
• After cutting, check the place against the light; a sprue nub only shows up in the reflection.

Who it is for

Suited to modelers who want one tool for the ordinary jobs on a kit and do not want a whole set of scalpels spread out on the bench. Beginners putting together their first basic equipment will appreciate it too: a knife, nippers and files make the minimum with which practically any plastic kit can be built decently. The red version is quicker to find among the tools on the bench. For fine work with photo-etched parts and small resin parts it is then worth adding a thin scalpel, which will cleanly separate even millimeter-sized components.

The tool is sharp and can cause a cut if guided wrongly. Work with adequate lighting, cover the blade after the work and store the tool out of the reach of children.
