Replacement blades with a fine point

This is a replacement part, not a tool. A blade with a fine long point is the most used modeling shape of all: it reaches into narrow places, will part a piece from the sprue and peel off a thin burr, and it also suits cutting paper, card, balsa and film. It fits No. 1 size handles, which is the most widespread system of modeling scalpels, so it will also fit knives from other brands with the same mount.

Use

• Loosen the handle fully before a change, seat the blade in the guide grooves and only then tighten it.
• Change the blade before it dulls. A blunt point tears material, slips and is more dangerous than a sharp one.
• For fine cuts lead the knife in several light strokes rather than one heavy one.
• The point is fragile, so do not use it for prying or for cutting hard material.
• Work on a cutting mat, as a hard bench will ruin a fine point at once.

Who they are for

Blades belong to the basic consumables of any modeling bench. It is worth keeping a stock, because the quality of a cut depends above all on sharpness, and with this shape sharpness goes quickly. Parting pieces from the sprue, cleaning up mold parting lines, trimming decals and cutting templates from paper and film are done over and over again, and each of those jobs works the point differently. Modelers therefore commonly alternate a fresh blade for fine work with an older one for cutting coarser material.

The blades are very sharp. Store them in their original packaging, never leave them loose on the bench, dispose of used ones in a closed container and keep everything out of reach of children.
