Option Body Parts Type A01 (Color B), optional body parts from Bandai

Optional body parts are the building blocks of a modular system: they let you swap one section of a figure for another and put together your own version of a model. This is an accessory, not a complete kit. The designation Type A01 distinguishes the particular set of shapes, while the suffix Color B distinguishes the color variant: Bandai releases the same type in several color finishes and the letter is the only thing that tells them apart.

How the modular system is worked with

The parts are injection-molded from plastic colored right through and fit onto standardized joints by snapping into place, so swapping them requires neither glue nor a knife and is reversible at any time. You can therefore keep changing the assembly as you go, and sets bought later combine with one another. Check the exact number of parts and the scope of the package on the box of the set.

Painting and surface finish

You can build straight out of the box. Anyone who wants to go further can break the parts down into sections and spray their own scheme; small areas are easier to paint before assembly. On body parts it works well to pick out the parting lines lightly with a fine pen or a wash and to fix the result with a matte or semi-gloss varnish depending on the look you want. It is always an optional step, not a necessity.
