Pale Blue 17 ml - an AK interactive 3rd Generation acrylic paint

Pale Blue is a light blue shade from the blue section of the 3rd Generation line. It is a water-based acrylic in a bottle of 17 ml. It is thinned with water or with acrylic thinner, never with a solvent meant for enamels or lacquers. Rinse the tools with water right after work, as dried acrylic is far harder to get out of a brush.

Use and thinning

• Shake the bottle until all the settled pigment has lifted off the bottom.
• Thin it for the airbrush gradually, drop by drop; an over-thinned light shade loses coverage very quickly.
• With a brush lay it on thinly and let it dry, and only then add a second coat.
• Under a light blue it is worth having a white or light gray primer.

Application tips

Light shades reveal every unevenness in the base and every imperfectly sanded joint, so prepare the surface under them more carefully than you would for dark colors. The scale effect also applies: the smaller the model, the lighter the paint looks on it compared with reality, and light blues are therefore often left as they are in small scales, while on large models they are toned down a fraction. If you are going to mask over the paint with tape, let it cure properly; acrylic is dry to the touch in a few minutes, but it only reaches full strength after a longer time and a fresh light coat is easily pulled away.

A light blue finds its use on the undersides of aircraft, on naval subjects, on civil and modern vehicles, on clothing and accessories on figures and in dioramas on interiors and equipment. With no smell of solvents, it also suits work in a living space.
