A flat sanding board of aluminum alloy from the PRO Cerberus range. It is sometimes taken for a file, yet in fact it has no teeth of its own: it is a carrier to which abrasive paper is fastened. That changes what gets used up in sanding. You are not buying a single-use tool but a base to which only the abrasive is then topped up as you go.
Paper is stuck onto a dry and degreased surface, otherwise it lifts in the course of the work and starts to shift, which is the most common cause of uneven sanding. Pull old paper off along the board, not at right angles to it, so that the adhesive does not tear into pieces. Remains of adhesive can be wiped off with a clean cloth and a little alcohol, but then let the board air out before new paper goes on it. Do not treat the aluminum itself with oil, as the grease would transfer to the paper and lower its grip. A stored board must not lie loose among pliers and cutters, because a knocked-about edge no longer holds a plane.
For modelers who sand often and want a tool whose properties do not change over time. For occasional builds a simple sanding board is enough; what this one gives is rigidity and a plane that stays true. The gray finish is one of the color variants of the range, so do not ascribe different properties to it without confirmation from the manufacturer.
Abrasive paper is not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Fine dust arises while sanding, so ventilate and consider respiratory protection. Keep out of the reach of children.
