The L profile has two legs meeting at a right angle, each 4.8 mm long, and one piece measures 35 cm. In the real world the angle is probably the most widespread rolled shape of all: it holds frames together, edges the borders of sheet metal and carries light structures. In 1:35 scale a leg corresponds to roughly 17 cm and in 1:48 to about 23 cm, so the size suits ordinary building and machinery use. The surface is smooth and white, so a primer and light shades hold on it well.
It suggests itself for gate and window frames, for the edging of a truck cargo bed, for bracing wooden crates, for railing stanchions and for fence posts. It also serves neatly as a support in the inner corner of a building, where it not only strengthens the meeting of two walls but at the same time guarantees a right angle without lengthy measuring. Modelers of military vehicles make tool brackets on the fenders and strips under the side panels from it, and railroad modelers the brackets of overhead wiring.
Before cutting, mark the length with a scriber on both legs, or the saw will wander and the end will come out at an angle. The angle is glued with modeling solvent, which welds both walls into a rigid corner. If you want a frame with mitered corners, cut the ends at forty-five degrees in a simple miter box and assemble the whole frame dry first. A bend into a curve comes out if the outer leg is cut halfway through in several places; after gluing, the cuts fill with paint and disappear.
One angle is supplied.
