Rail Center - Asphalt Roads

Rail Center, Asphalt Roads

This set of acrylic paints from the Rail Center railroad line is put together around one particular theme: asphalt and bituminous surfaces. It comes in on roads, depot yards, ramps and railroad crossings, that is everywhere bare plaster, plastic or modeling compound is to become a roadway. The paints are acrylic and are thinned with water; they are applied with brush and airbrush alike. The exact composition of the set is stated on the box.

Use

• First degrease the surface and even it out with a primer, on which acrylic holds best.
• Lay the base tone of the asphalt with an airbrush so that it stays even and free of brush strokes.
• Then break the surface up with patches of lighter and darker shades, as an unbroken gray looks artificial.
• Add wheel tracks, oil stains and road repairs at the end in thin coats.
• Seal the result with a matte varnish, as asphalt should have no gloss.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas and modular layouts where road and rail traffic meet, and for vehicle modelers who need a convincing roadway under a vehicle. The set makes a good base for washes and pigments for dust, mud and worn tracks to follow on from.
