RAL 8031 F9 SANDBRAUN – AFV

RAL 8031 F9 Sandbraun - AK interactive acrylic for vehicles

A sandy brown shade from the 3rd Generation sub-line intended for models of armored and wheeled vehicles. The abbreviation at the end of the name marks the line, not a property of the paint. Chemically it is a water-based acrylic: it is thinned with water or with the acrylic thinner of the same brand, not with lacquer or nitro thinner. The tone lies between sand and earthy brown, so in camouflage it typically appears as the second or third shade alongside a light beige and a dark green.

What too thin a coat does

Thinning has a lower limit and even an experienced modeler only notices it being crossed on the model. Overthinned paint loses its covering power, so the base shows through over a dark primer and the shade shifts optically toward gray. At the same time it becomes a liquid that does not stay where you put it - it runs down vertical surfaces, gathers in engraved lines and forms darker rings around rivets that look like an unwanted wash. The third consequence is the least noticeable: a thin coat holds little binder, so the surface stays chalky and masking tape will later pull the paint off along with its imprint. When that happens, let the area dry out, sand it with the finest paper and apply the paint in a thicker consistency.

Use

• The brown tone of multicolor camouflage schemes on vehicles.
• Transition areas between sand and green fields.
• A base for earthy effects, dust and mud deposits.
• Filling in the scheme with a brush on small parts and equipment.

Who the paint is for

For builders of vehicle models who put together a multicolor scheme and want to stay within one acrylic line, so that the shades behave the same way when thinned and when drying.

A water-based acrylic paint. Ventilate the room or use extraction while spraying and protect your airways. Keep out of the reach of children.
