Hexagon punch and die II from the Czech manufacturer 3Detail serves for punching hexagonal shapes out of thin material. Lead foil, copper sheet or a thin plastic sheet turn into bolt heads and nuts.

The punch and die is a pair of tools, a punch and a die, between which an exact shape is struck out of thin material. With this aid the shape is a hexagon, that is the basic shape from which bolt heads, nuts and flanges are made on a model. The tool therefore solves a detail whose production by hand with a knife is slow and never comes out the same twice. The number in the name distinguishes the individual variants in the manufacturer's range.
Lay the material on the die, set the punch on it at right angles and strike it out with a short, decisive blow of a mallet. Weak, repeated pressure tears the shape. It works best with thin lead or copper foil, but a thin plastic sheet or heavier paper will do as well. The punched hexagons are glued onto a model with cyanoacrylate, and on plastic thin plastic cement can be used too. For a more convincing impression it is good to set them slightly irregularly, as real bolts are never perfectly lined up either.
The tools have sharp working edges and are used with a blow. Keep them out of reach of children. Wash your hands after working with lead foil.
