RLM 74 is a dark gray with a green cast. It belongs to the later German scheme, in which the upper surfaces were covered by a pair of gray shades while the undersides stayed very light. In this pair, RLM 74 is the darker component; its counterpart carries the number 75. The shade suits any spot where gray areas, rather than the earlier green tones, appear above the wing.
On the upper surfaces of wings, fuselage and tail surfaces, and on the mottling sprayed onto the sides of the fuselage and the vertical tail surface. It is exactly this mottling that gives late German aircraft their character, and since it varied from machine to machine, it is worth keeping photos of the specific aircraft on hand. The paint also serves for retouching sanded spots and newly glued parts.
The paint is supplied in a 17 ml volume. Do not pour leftover paint from the mixing tray back into the bottle, to keep contaminants out. Thinner, primer, varnish and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging for thinning, tool cleaning and storage. Work in a well-ventilated room and keep the bottle carefully closed, out of the reach of children.
