ROCAF F-104, TF-104 and RF-104 from Freedom Model Kits is a stylized kit in the egg model style, a caricature of a supersonic aircraft with a very short wing. It is not a scale model.

A plastic kit from the stylized egg model line. The fuselage is foreshortened and stocky, the canopy deliberately enlarged and the flying surfaces substantially smaller than reality would call for. The model is therefore not a reduction in any particular scale, and no scale is given for it. On the F-104 this style has a special charm: the real subject is famous for its extremely short and thin wing and its long slender fuselage, so the caricature foreshortening of the proportions creates a striking silhouette. The name refers to the single-seat combat, two-seat training and reconnaissance versions in the colors of the Republic of China Air Force.
The F-104 was a single-engine supersonic combat aircraft designed around performance and speed. Characteristic of it is a very short trapezoidal wing with sharp leading edges, a slender fuselage with side air intakes and a horizontal tail set high on the vertical tail. A single-seat combat version, a two-seat version with a tandem canopy for training and a reconnaissance form with cameras were built. The aircraft was in wide international use and was part of the equipment of the Republic of China Air Force as well.
The build is simpler than that of a classic scale model: the parts are larger and there are fewer of them. Even so, level the sprue nubs and sand the fuselage joint over, because on rounded glossy surfaces an unevenness shows clearly. The natural metal finish that suggests itself for this subject is done on a perfectly smoothed base: sand it to a high gloss, spray a gloss black or graphite base and lay the metallic shade on only over that. Individual panels can be set apart with different shades of metal, but on a stylized model it is a good idea to keep that restrained. Mask the canopy with tape, because the large glazing is a prominent feature on egg models. Leave the weathering out or limit it to a suggestion.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
