Softouch Velvet Masking Sheets 280 x 195 mm (AMMO of Mig Jimenez)

A universal masking material in the form of self-adhesive sheets measuring 280 x 195 mm. Unlike masking tape, which is limited by its width, here you get a continuous surface from which you cut exactly the shape you need. It is not a set of masks for one specific model - it is the material from which you make the mask yourself.

Use

• Covering large continuous areas that would otherwise need many strips of tape laid side by side
• Your own shaped masks - canopies, intakes, wheels, cutouts to a template
• Protecting already sprayed and dried coats from the next layer
• Masking on models where you are wary of the more aggressive tack of ordinary tapes

How to work with the sheets

First trace or cut the shape straight on the sheet with a sharp scalpel and a new blade, then peel the backing film off and stick it down. Press the edges along their whole length carefully so that paint does not creep underneath - an unpressed edge across an engraved line is what causes the most trouble. Apply the paint in thin coats and work from the edge of the mask inwards. Take the mask off while the coat is only touch dry, not after it has fully cured, and pull it back at an angle over itself, not straight up. On a freshly painted surface, always test the tack on an inconspicuous spot first.

For modelers who spray with an airbrush and need to mask irregular shapes that strips of tape do not suit. Builders of aircraft and vehicles will appreciate them, as will anyone who likes drawing their own masks rather than hunting for a ready-made set for one specific kit.
