Spot-On Pigment No. 18 Medium Old Rust

A loose modeling pigment from the numbered Spot-On line from the manufacturer VMS. It carries the sequence number No. 18 and the shade name Medium Old Rust, that is, a medium tone of old rust. Within the rusty part of the line it is the middle member, which holds the largest area of corrosion and joins the darker and the lighter shades into a whole.

Use

• The main area of rusty surfaces on a hull, on tanks and on sheet metal covers.
• The coloring of tracks, chains and running gear parts that are commonly rubbed and rust.
• Exhausts and thermally stressed parts, where rust mixes with the deposits of exhaust gases.
• A transitional layer between the dark base of corrosion and a fresher shade.

Work tips

The middle tone tends to be the most visible on a model, so it pays to pay attention to exactly where it ends. Sharp boundaries of rust look artificial; an irregular edge is more natural and can be created by touching with an almost dry brush or by a light sweep. If an area comes out too rich, it is enough to clean the surface and take some of the material off. For the metallic sheen of rubbed areas, a different, metallic material is applied at the very end.
