Planks that stand in rain and sun for years do not have the color of wood. They lose their resin, the surface turns fibrous and the whole area pulls toward a light silvery gray with a cool cast. Bluegrey FS35622 from the Italian maker Lifecolor is exactly that kind of light blue-gray tone. The number in the name is a designation from the American Federal Standard color standard.
On engraved or otherwise suggested plank texture a light cool shade behaves generously: it settles on the raised fibers and the edges of the individual boards, while the joints and grooves stay dark. That creates exactly the contrast by which we recognize old wood, a light surface and dark gaps. The approach that works best on a diorama leads from a darker gray-brown base to this shade applied with an almost dry brush across the grain of the wood.
Modelers who build harbor, village or farm scenes with large areas of wood, and everyone struggling on a model of a deck with planks that look too new.
Keep out of the reach of children and work in a well-ventilated room.
