The second weathered tone of the olive line, Olive Drab weathered tipo 2 Matt from Lifecolor, serves to set apart surfaces that aged in a different setting from the rest of the machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
When a machine gets dirty, it does not get dirty all over in the same way. The front gets a different layer from the rear, the side turned into the wind a different one from the sheltered side, and a part replaced in the field has a shorter history behind it than the rest. The second weathered variant of the olive exists precisely so that this difference can be shown in color, not merely in the amount of grime.
The simplest approach is to divide the surface into bands according to how much it has taken. Leave the areas sheltered from the sun and from splashes in the richer tone, go over the exposed parts with the weathered variant and blur the transition between them. Only onto this base do dust and mud come. The result then holds together even when the overall soiling is only mild, because the surface has depth of its own.
For modelers who build vehicles into a particular setting and want the surface to tell where the machine has been. It also serves in dioramas where several machines stand side by side and are meant to be told apart.
Keep the paint out of the reach of children, ensure ventilation when spraying and protect your airways and eyes.
