The desert upper surfaces of German aircraft are held by the paint Lifecolor Luftwaffe Sandgelb II RLM 79, an acrylic shade for Mediterranean and North African camouflage.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sandy yellow acrylic shade for modelers working on German aircraft deployed in the Mediterranean and in North Africa. The abbreviation RLM is the German wartime coding of shades, and the number 79 in it belongs to the desert camouflage. The qualifier II refers to a later variant of the same shade, as the manufacturer distinguishes it within the range.
The desert scheme of the Luftwaffe is simple and legible: a continuous sandy yellow upper surface, a light blue underneath and, on the upper side of many machines, green blotches or bands as well. Sandgelb is the largest color by area in that trio; it covers the spine of the fuselage, the upper side of the wings, the fin and the horizontal tail surfaces. That is exactly why it pays to apply it continuously and in thin coats, so that no visible transitions appear on a large area.
For aircraft modelers focused on German machines of the Second World War and for everyone who assembles their own palette by RLM numbers. Within the RLM system this shade forms a pair with the light blue underside color and is completed by a green for the blotches.
Keep out of the reach of children. Work in a well-ventilated space when spraying.
