The scorched edges of a tarpaulin and sooty marks left by fire are handled by the acrylic shade Burned Stains from Lifecolor, a dark tone intended for the places heat has reached.

A scorched place differs from ordinary dirt in the way its edge looks. Fire leaves no clean edge: around a burned core a diffused ring of darkened material stays that passes into the undamaged material gradually. Burned Stains from the Lifecolor acrylic range is a shade for precisely this zone, for the marks fire leaves on canvas, hemp rope, sacking or wood. In scale it is the character of the transition rather than the darkness of the mark itself that decides.
What is decisive is the order and the softness of the boundary. The shade is applied over the already finished basic tone of the material, and from the center of the mark outward, with a decreasing amount of paint on the brush. A sharp edge gives a mark away at once. With tarpaulins and canvas sheets it is good to think out in advance where the fire came from: the marks should have a common direction and not be scattered at random over the whole part. It also helps to bear in mind that fire rises, so on the vertical surface of a tarpaulin the affected zone tends to be drawn upward rather than spread into a circle.
Typical use
For diorama makers and modelers who build scenes with damage and want traces of fire under control. A water-based acrylic paint, for the brush and the airbrush alike.
Keep out of the reach of children. Stir the contents before use and ensure ventilation when spraying.
