About product

Vallejo Model Air - UK BSC 49 Light Purple Brown

An acrylic modeling paint from the Vallejo Model Air line. Model Air is a water-thinnable acrylic paint with a fine pigment, mixed so that it can be sprayed with an airbrush practically without further thinning. That is exactly what sets it apart from the thick Model Color line, which is meant above all for a brush and has to be thinned before spraying. The shade carries the designation of the British standard BSC (British Standard color) number 49 with the name Light Purple Brown; it is a brown with a violet cast, of the kind that appeared in British camouflage.

Use

  • Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles to the bottom.
  • Spraying with an airbrush: the paint is ready for direct use, and depending on the nozzle and the pressure it can be thinned a little with acrylic thinner from the same maker.
  • Lay it on in several thin coats, because acrylic holds best on smooth plastic over a primer.
  • It can be used with a brush as well, but the thin consistency means more coats than with the thick line meant for a brush.
  • Clean the tools and the airbrush right after the work, because dried acrylic is markedly harder to get off.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who spray with an airbrush and want a shade to the British standard at hand without mixing. It suits aircraft as well as ground subjects, but in both cases check the subject and the shade against your own source material, because the shade is defined by the standard, not by a particular machine.

A water-thinnable acrylic paint. Keep out of the reach of children, ventilate while spraying and use protection for your airways.

FAQ

It is a water-based acrylic. It is thinned with acrylic thinner from the same maker, or with water. On no account mix it with lacquer or enamel thinners.

It is not. Model Air is thinner and ready for spraying, while Model Color is a thick paint for a brush which has to be thinned before spraying. The same name of a shade may exist in both lines.

It is the number of the shade according to the British standard, British Standard color. The name Light Purple Brown describes a brown tone with a violet cast.

We recommend one. On bare, smooth plastic acrylic holds less well and is more easily scuffed while masking or handling.
