The Hotchkiss range is one of the most numerous families of French light tanks of the late 1930s, and Zebranomodel breaks it down into the individual production forms in 1:100 scale. This set captures the early shape of the H35. It is precisely the chance to put several production stages of the same type side by side that makes the small scale an interesting collecting discipline. The designation early refers to the early stage of production of the type.
The Hotchkiss H35 was a French light tank of the second half of the 1930s, built from cast segments bolted together. The crew consisted of two men, with the commander in the turret also working the armament — an arrangement typical of French light tanks of the period and clearly a disadvantage in combat. The vehicle carried a short 37 mm gun. The type was produced in fairly large numbers and in 1940 appeared with both cavalry and infantry formations.
Cast shapes are the main visual theme of the Hotchkiss tanks, and in 1:100 they are easy to lose. So it pays to work with a primer in a very thin layer and to spray the base shade rather than lay it on thickly with a brush. A cast surface can be suggested by roughening it slightly before painting or, on the contrary, by fine stippling of a darker tone once it has dried. Leave the turret to be glued on only after the hull is painted, as the model is then easier to handle. A small vehicle is held well on a stick pushed into modeling compound. At the end a matte clear coat unifies the surface and brings out the contrast between the paint and the weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
