A resin set that on an MD-90 model replaces the molded trailing edge of the wing with extended landing flaps. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory intended for installation into a plastic kit in 1:144 scale. According to the name the set is cut for a particular kit.
The MD-90 is the last development branch of the DC-9 family, stretched compared with the MD-80 and fitted with a new generation of engines. The wing kept the layout typical of the whole family: the engines hang on the rear fuselage, so the trailing edge is free for continuous high-lift devices. The longer fuselage and higher operating weight mean that on approach the flaps extend to large angles, accompanied by distinctly protruding track fairings on the underside of the wing. That is exactly the picture the set creates on a model.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent, otherwise the paint will sit unevenly. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on glass, as thin flap parts are otherwise easily deformed. Cut the trailing edge off the kit according to the new part, but leave yourself a margin and sand it down to the final fit. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue and watch that both wings have the same angle of extension. Paint the wells and the tracks before gluing, because after assembly you will no longer reach them. On the finished surface it pays to pick out the panel lines with a thinned panel shade, as with the devices extended the structure of the wing is far more legible than in the cruise position.
The set is supplied as a resin accessory, unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
