A standalone decal sheet from the manufacturer Kits-World intended for models of the North American P-51 Mustang fighter in versions B and D. The two versions differ markedly in appearance, so the sheet can be used on two different airframe shapes, and it is therefore worth checking which markings belong to which version. The sheet covers the particular machines shown on the packaging; the manufacturer names its sheets after the type of aircraft, so compare the illustration with what you want to build before buying. The model, paints and clear coat are not in the package.
The P-51 Mustang was an American single-engine fighter that gained its famed performance at altitude once a license-built supercharged Merlin engine had been installed. Version B still had the original fuselage spine with a framed canopy, on some machines supplemented by a bulged sliding hood for better visibility. Version D received a lowered spine and a bubble canopy, which gave the pilot all-round visibility, and reworked armament in the wing. The difference between the two forms is visible on a model at first glance.
The main risk on the glossy metal surfaces that Mustangs often had is silvering: air gets trapped under the carrier film and the decal goes dull. Polish the surface, therefore, and spray it with gloss clear rather than leaving the bare metal shade. Apply the decals once the base painting is finished and before the weathering, so that washes and pigments can be worked across them and the markings settle visually into the surface. Once dry, rinse off any adhesive residue and only then apply clear coat. Keep to the order of clear coat, decals, weathering, final clear coat even on a model this small.
