Mikromir 1:144 Tiburon is a short-run plastic kit of a Spanish midget submarine, a small model about thirteen centimeters long intended for more experienced modelers.

A plastic kit of the Spanish Tiburon class midget submarine in 1:144 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer Mikromir. It is a new mold from the end of the second decade of this century. The finished model measures roughly 131 mm. The manufacturer itself recommends the set to more experienced modelers; it is a short-run technology, where more sensitive work with cleaning and fitting the parts is to be expected.
The Tiburon class was a series of midget submarines of the Spanish Navy. Two units were built, designated SA-51 and SA-52, with a displacement of around seventy-five to eighty tons. Unit SA-51 served for experimental purposes and later became a museum exhibit displayed in front of the entrance to a science museum. The second unit is installed as a memorial on the grounds of the submarine navy school in Cartagena. It is therefore a subject that can also be looked up on surviving machines.
With a short-run mold the basis is patience: rid the parts of flash, try them dry and count on the locating pins being only indicated. The joint of the two hull halves will need filler and sanding smooth; after filling, always spray the area with primer and check it against the light to see whether a groove has been left there. Paint the submarine with an airbrush in thin coats, as a smooth surface forgives little. Underwater hulls weather nicely with a fine dark wash along the rivets and a light touch of a greenish filter at the waterline. The model presents well on a simple stand.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
