1:150 Horyuji Go-jyu-no-Toh is a plastic kit of the five-story pagoda of the Horyuji temple in 1:150 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi.

An injection-molded plastic kit of an architectural model, not of a vehicle or a ship. Alongside cars and ships, Fujimi also puts out a long-running range of Japanese historic buildings, and this model belongs to it. The 1:150 scale corresponds to the Japanese N railroad scale, so the pagoda can be fittingly placed on a model railroad layout or into a diorama with buildings of the same scale. The exact number of parts, the height of the assembled model and the recommended set of colors are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Horyuji is a Buddhist temple complex in Ikaruga, Nara Prefecture. Its five-story pagoda is among the oldest surviving wooden buildings in the world, and together with the other structures of the precinct it is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Structurally it is based on a central pillar running the whole height of the building, around which the individual stories are arranged with markedly overhanging roofs. The stories grow smaller toward the top and the whole is finished by a metal spire. Also typical is the combination of white plastered surfaces, the dark wood of the load-bearing structure and gray roofing.
Assemble an architectural model dry first, to check how the stories sit on one another. Keeping things level is crucial on a pagoda, otherwise a deviation multiplies with every further story. It pays to split the painting up: paint the load-bearing wooden elements and the beams and let them dry before you close up the roof surfaces. You will bring the roofing to life with a dark wash in the joints and a light dry brush on the edges of the tiles. Wood looks more convincing when the basic brown shade is broken up with several glazes. Finish the whole model with a matte coat; gloss would be distracting on a historic building.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
