A model standing on a bare board has no sense of scale: a viewer cannot tell whether they are looking at a fighter or at a model of a machine half the size. A ladder leaning against the side of the fuselage settles that at once, because everyone knows the height of a step. It also makes sense of an open canopy, which otherwise looks as if the pilot had jumped out of a window, and it offers a natural place for a figure of a mechanic. The Super Mystere B2 was a French supersonic fighter of the 1950s, so the accessory also suits a period airfield scene with further ground equipment.
Wash the resin parts in warm water with dish soap so that no mold release stays on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc and level the face by wet sanding with respiratory protection. The thin parts of the ladder are fragile, so work over a tray or a light surface: a broken-off part is hopeless to find on a carpet. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Painting has a simple recipe: a base in the shade you choose, light chipping in aluminum paint or graphite along the edges of the steps and the handrails, a brown wash into the corners and dust and mud in pigment on the feet. It is exactly the wear that turns a ladder into a believable prop; new and clean it looks like a plastic toy.
