The figure captures a bear at the moment of catching a fish, that is, in a position that is a story in itself. It is not a kit of equipment, but a figural accessory for nature dioramas and vignettes in 1:24 scale. In a large scale the fur and the mass of the animal body come out well, which makes a bear a rewarding object for modelers who want to try techniques other than painting uniforms and equipment.
Its natural setting is a river bank or rapids where a bear hunts. It combines well with a diorama landing stage, with a water surface made of modeling resin and with vegetation; it can also be brought into a scene indirectly, for instance as an object watched from a parked off-road vehicle. It comes into its own in wilderness scenes with no tie to a particular period, so it can be placed in a historical or a present-day scene alike.
Fur is painted from a dark base toward the lighter tips of the hairs: after the base comes a thinned dark wash in the recesses and then gradual dry-brushing with a lighter shade along the direction of the fur. Keep the muzzle and the claws darker and slightly glossy, and only suggest the eyes. The fish is a rewarding contrast; a pearly or silvery cast and a gloss varnish suit it, so that it looks wet. Mask the transition between the water and the body with gel water or a gloss medium, which creates the impression of a splashing surface. Clean the figure up and wash it before painting; on fine castings super glue holds best.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
