Masks for the cockpit glazing of the late Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10 fighter in 1:24 scale. Covering from the outside as well as the inside is prepared; the set holds no national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The G-10 version was among the last forms of the Messerschmitt fighter to reach combat units. It was built from the autumn of 1944, usually by converting older airframes, and received the DB 605 D engine with increased power at greater altitudes. Its external recognition feature is the smooth cockpit canopy known as the Erla Haube: it has markedly fewer frames than the angular cockpit of the first versions and finally let the pilot look behind him. Many machines also carried an enlarged wooden vertical tail and a taller tail wheel. Because the history of the original airframe carried over into the serial numbers, identifying a particular machine is a puzzle for the modeler.
The film carries the shapes of the windscreen, the hinged section and the fixed rear part. The stated contents give the variant with covering from both sides, so pieces for the inner frames are included as well.
Because the hinged section is almost free of frames, the main part of the work lies on the windscreen, where the armored glass, the frame and the transition into the engine cowling all come together. Hand-laid tape is harder to shape into a curve there, while cut film seats the first time. The time saved can go into what is missing from the envelope, that is the crosses and the numbers, because this line holds no insignia at all and they have to come from decals. The inner face of the glass is masked on a large model too, otherwise the frame would stay transparent when seen through the glazing.
