An injection-molded plastic kit of the small Japanese Honda Beat roadster in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Aoshima. The car with the internal designation PP1 is among the best known representatives of the kei class, and in model form its small dimensions make it a rewarding project for the display case. The exact number of parts, the content of the decal sheet and how far the engine bay is worked out are stated on the box of the kit.
The Honda Beat was built from 1991 and was a two-seat open car with a fabric roof that fell into the Japanese kei class, with strictly limited dimensions and engine capacity. The three-cylinder unit of six hundred and fifty-six cubic centimeters sat in the middle behind the seats and drove the rear wheels — a layout practically never seen on production cars of this size. The output was limited under the Japanese rules of the day, but the fun came from a high-revving engine, low weight and direct steering.
On a small body every shortcoming shows twice as much under the paint, so sand it and spray a filler on before painting. Apply the paint in thin coats, let it mature and only then add the decals and a gloss clear coat. On an open car the interior is permanently in view, so it pays to spend time on it and to distinguish the shades of the upholstery, the plastics and the dashboard. If you build the model with the roof down, watch the clean seating of the windshield frame. Set the wheels and the tires apart by their degree of sheen.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
