A finished color part for the cockpit of a Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-series model in the large 1:32 scale. The RLM 02 designation in the name is a distinguishing detail: it is the gray-green shade in which the interiors of German aircraft of that period were usually finished. Yahu Models offers some panels in several color versions, so when choosing, take care which of them you need for your version. This is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement for the instrument panel in a kit you have already bought.

What the RLM 02 version means

The base of the panel is done in the gray-green interior shade, with the drawing of the dials and bezels laid over it. If you are building a model whose cockpit is to be in this shade, the panel fits into its surroundings without any further work. If on the other hand you want a darker interior, black-gray for instance, look for the matching variant of the panel, because repainting a finished part afterwards would wipe out the very thing it is bought for.

Usage tips

The accessory is fitted before the fuselage is closed. Thin down or remove the original plastic panel so that the replacement sits at the correct depth and does not clash with the instrument panel coaming or with the canopy. Use super glue in spots, or a glue for clear parts that does not cloud. Mask the panel when clear coating the cockpit. The dials suit a drop of gloss clear coat, which creates the impression of glass; a matte coat would flatten the printing instead.
