Aber 1:35 280 mm R. Gr. 4331 rocket-assisted shells for the Leopold railway gun is a set of turned metal ammunition from the Polish maker Aber for models of the German K5(E) railway gun in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of turned metal ammunition in 1:35 scale, not a standalone model. It holds 280 mm shells of the R. Gr. 4331 type, that is rocket-assisted projectiles for the German K5(E) railway gun known as Leopold. The turned projectiles have an exact circular cross section and crisply readable driving bands, so on the model and in a diorama alike they look far better than plastic substitutes.
The K5(E) was a German 280 mm railway gun meant for shelling targets at long range. Besides ordinary shells, ammunition with a rocket booster was developed for it, which lit a small motor only in flight and so stretched the range at the cost of accuracy and of the amount of explosive. These shells are among the technically most interesting pieces of German heavy artillery.
Wash the metal projectiles, degrease them and go over them with a thin coat of primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. The driving bands come out after a dark wash or careful polishing. If you want to display the ammunition laid out, plan the rack or crate in advance — heavy metal projectiles need a stable base and a secure bond with cyanoacrylate glue.
This is a detail accessory, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
