A printed paper accessory for a diorama from the ETA diorama range for 1:35 scale. The sheet carries Greek posters intended for the vertical surfaces of an urban scene: the walls of houses, fences, the wooden hoarding of a building site, posts and gates. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal, but paper that is cut, glued and aged.
The most believable thing is a poster hoarding on which the layers overlap. Work from the bottom up: first glue several posters that will form the lower layer, tear parts off them and only then glue the posters over them that are meant to look new. Tear by hand, not with scissors – torn paper has an irregular edge with fibers, while a cut looks artificial. Beneath the torn-off parts it is a good idea to suggest the remains of older posters by leaving only a narrow strip of printing visible. The surface then tells you that it has been pasted on for years.
Apply PVA glue to the undercoat; once it has soaked in the paper moves a little and a poster buckles by itself, which looks good in a scene. On a rough wall dampen the poster slightly from the back, so that it follows the unevenness, and press it down with a brush. On sun-lit surfaces suggest fading with very thinned white or with pastel, and dirty the lower edges with pigment from splashing water. Go over the cut edges with a pencil, otherwise white paper glares in close-up. At the end a weak matte clear coat unifies the sheen with the wall and seals the surface.
The accessory is supplied as a printed sheet. Glue, paints and clear coats are not included in the package.
