About product

Resin wheels with deformation for the Buffalo 6x6 MPCV in 1:35 scale

This set from E.T. Model replaces the wheels from a plastic kit with resin castings. Its main benefit is the so-called weighting deformation: the lower part of the tire is cast slightly flattened, as though the weight of the vehicle were pressing on the wheel. The model then does not look as though it is hovering on its base, and it gains a convincing stance. The castings tend to have a sharper tread and more legible sidewall lettering than the standard plastic parts. The set is intended for the form matching the production batch of 2004 to 2006.

The real subject

The Buffalo is an American wheeled vehicle of the MRAP category with high resistance to mines and booby-trap devices. Its characteristic feature is a V-shaped hull, which deflects the blast wave away from the crew compartment, a 6x6 configuration and a hydraulic manipulator arm on the front of the vehicle. It is used by engineer units for route clearance and for the removal of dangerous objects.

Fitting and painting tips

Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent first, so that remains of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutter, sand the surface and protect your airways while sanding resin. They are glued with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic will not hold on resin. Apply a base coat before painting. The most important thing is the orientation: the flattened face must point downwards and lie parallel with the base, otherwise the effect is lost. Rubber looks more convincing in a dark gray shade than in pure black, and dust on the sidewalls is adjusted with pigments.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building modern wheeled vehicles who want a faithful stance for the vehicle.
  • Builders of dioramas where the chassis is clearly visible.
  • More experienced modelers with experience of working with resin.

An accessory set, not a complete kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is an accessory set of replacement resin wheels that you use on a model that is already built or part-built. The model itself has to be obtained separately.

The lower part of the tire is cast slightly flattened, as though the weight of the vehicle were pressing it down. The model then looks natural on its base and does not look as though it touches the ground at a single point.

Cyanoacrylate glue. Ordinary cement for plastic does not soften resin and the joint will not hold.

Yes. There tend to be remains of the mold release agent on the surface that would prevent both the base coat and the paint from adhering. Lukewarm water with detergent and a soft brush are enough.
