Sett paving carries all its effect in the number of joints. Where a large format slab looks calm, small setts make an area vibrate with a thousand tiny shadows and a scene immediately looks older and more used. Historically this is the paving of streets, yards, factory grounds and station docks, that is exactly the places where modelers most often set vehicles and figures. The large number of elements also allows fan and row patterns to be created that cannot be imitated with larger slabs.
The piece supplied is of acrylic worked by laser, has a format of 141 x 96 mm and holds 224 elements. Their size is not uniform, so the resulting area does not look machine made. At the same format as the versions with large slabs, this is the finest division the line offers in this scale.
Working in smaller sections and checking as you go whether the rows are drifting proves itself. Small deviations are desirable, a continuous wave is not. At the edges of the area it is advisable to set a few setts deeper, because real paving settles at a curb.
The difference between the middle and the edge of the area achieves the most. The middle tends to be worn smooth and lighter, while dirt and vegetation hold at the edges. A dark wash run between the setts decides whether the area will be readable; without it, it merges into a uniform surface.
