An injection-molded plastic kit of the Russian TOS-1A heavy rocket launcher in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the tracked chassis derived from the T-72 tank with a rotating platform carrying the pack of launcher tubes. The package contains richly broken-down plastic parts, individually assembled track links and a photo-etched fret for fine detail. It is a large and striking model which will catch the eye in a display case through the combination of a tank chassis and a massive launcher superstructure.
The TOS-1A is a Russian self-propelled rocket launcher of 220 mm caliber intended to fire thermobaric and incendiary rockets at short and medium range. The system is built on the chassis of the T-72 tank, which gives it tracked mobility and armored protection for the crew. The pack of launcher tubes traverses and the elevation is set hydraulically. The real subject is characterized by the combination of a classic tank chassis with a bulky block superstructure of the launcher.
Finish the running gear and the chassis first; the individual track links are easier to assemble and paint before they are seated on the wheels. Use a thin cement on the plastic and glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting; an airbrush is ideal. For weathering, dark washes into the recesses and into the locks of the launcher work well, along with dust or mud pigments on the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
