The kit covers the LanceR C, that is the upgraded variant of the MiG-21MF-75 aircraft modified for the Romanian Air Force. The model is supplied as a classic injection-molded plastic kit, unassembled and unpainted. Compared with the basic MiG-21MF, the LanceR C differs above all in a reworked nose and cockpit, so when building it this is not a merely repainted MiG-21 but a different sub-version. The particular contents of the box, the number of parts and the number of schemes are stated on the box.
The MiG-21 is a single-engine supersonic fighter with a delta wing and a circular air intake with a movable cone. The MF version was among the later and most widespread variants of the second generation of the type. The LanceR program came about as a Romanian upgrade of the existing MiG-21 fleet and brought new cockpit equipment with multi-function displays, modified avionics and the ability to carry different armament. The variant designated C was intended for air combat and differed from the ground-attack variant in its equipment and in some external features.
The delta wing and slender fuselage mean long joints that have to be filled and sanded over, after which the engraved lines have to be restored. The cockpit is one of the main recognition features on the LanceR, so it is worth giving it time, because it is clearly visible under the glazing. Before closing the fuselage up, check whether the model needs weight in the nose, as slender machines with the landing gear far aft tend to settle onto their tails. The finish of Romanian LanceRs is multi-colored, so work the camouflage in layers from the lighter to the darker. Spray gloss clear coat under the decals and even the result out with matte or satin.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
