The real subject

The Volkssturm was the German home guard of the last period of the Second World War, into which men outside regular military service were called up. The armament of such units was a mixed bag: older and newer weapons stood side by side and the gear was gathered wherever it could be found. It is precisely this variety that is rewarding on a model, because the scene does not look like an issue counter handing out identical pieces.

What the set adds

This is a set of small arms in 1:35 scale, marked as the first part of a series. The weapons suit figures, crates and racks as well as loose placement around a vehicle or inside a building. Which particular types the set holds and in what numbers is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging and in the instructions; plan ahead from that how many pieces you really need for the scene.

Working the parts and painting

The material of the parts is not stated here, so match the glue to it: whatever is not polystyrene holds with super glue, while polystyrene parts are joined by ordinary modeling cement. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder carefully, and on thin barrels and stocks work with a backing under the part. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Wooden sections can be brought to life with a glaze over a lighter base, and metal sections take a dark base and a light polishing of the edges.
