About product

Side armor plates for the Tiger II of early production, 1:35 scale (Voyager Model)

This photo-etched set from Voyager Model is meant for a model of the German Tiger II heavy tank in the fit matching the early production machines. It holds the side armor plates, the Schürzen, and their attachment in photo-etched brass. The model of the vehicle is not part of the package; the set serves as an accessory for a kit in 1:35 scale you already have. The set is intended for the Takom 2096 kit.

The real subject

Early examples of the Tiger II tank differ from later series production in a series of details, most noticeably in the shape of the turret with its rounded front wall. The vehicle carried a long-barreled 88 mm gun and heavily sloped armor on the hull. The changes between the early and the later appearance also touched small items on the hull, which matters to a modeler, because accessories are not interchangeable between the variants.

Building and painting tips

The key to a clean result is dispensing the cyanoacrylate. Never glue straight from the bottle; a drop is disproportionately large for a photo-etched part, floods the relief and turns into a white haze. Squeeze a small drop onto a piece of aluminum foil or onto a tile and take it up with the tip of a thin wire, a pin or an old drill bit. For individual plates a tiny spot on each hanger is enough. Thin glue creeps into a joint by itself; on larger areas reach for the gel version with a longer setting time. Wipe any excess away at once with a cotton bud.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the early appearance of the Tiger II tank in 1:35 scale
  • Those interested in a faithful thickness of the side armor plates
  • More experienced builders who work with cyanoacrylate
  • Collectors of German equipment of the Second World War with an emphasis on variants

The set is an accessory, not a model. It does not hold the kit of the vehicle, glue or paints.

FAQ

Yes, it is marked for the early production. The details of the attachment differ between production series, so do not interchange the sets between variants.

Squeeze a drop onto aluminum foil and take it up with the tip of a wire or a pin. Gluing straight from the bottle floods the relief and leaves a white haze.

No. The set deals with the side armor plates and their hanging; the other parts of the model stay as in the original kit.
