About product

Photo-etched fenders Neubaufahrzeug (Rheinmetall) 1:35 — Voyager Model

A set of photo-etched metal parts for the fenders of the German multi-turret vehicle Neubaufahrzeug in the version with the Rheinmetall turret, in 1:35 scale from the Voyager Model brand. It is not a model of a vehicle or a kit — it is an upgrade accessory that is fitted into an already part-built plastic model. It replaces the plastic fenders and their fittings with thin photo-etched metal exactly where the thickness of plastic shows most: on the upper edge of a fender, on the supporting brackets and on the small equipment.

What the set is for

On armored equipment the fenders are a visible edge that the viewer sees in profile and from above. Injection-molded plastic is always a compromise here — real sheet metal is tenths of a millimeter thick in 1:35 scale, and that cannot be cast in a mold. Photo-etch solves the problem directly: the part has the right thickness, a sharp edge and engraved details that are missing in plastic. On top of that it can be shaped, so it is possible to model even a bent or torn-off fender, which is not possible with a static plastic part. The Neubaufahrzeug was a German multi-turret prototype of the 1930s produced only in a small series; its long hull makes the fenders an especially prominent line. The parts are shaped for the Trumpeter 05528 kit.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut the parts out of the fret with a scalpel on a hard surface; never break them out. Make the bends along the etched line, ideally in a bending tool or between two razor blades; slowly and along the whole length at once, so that the edge stays straight. They are glued with superglue applied in a minimal quantity, or on larger surfaces by soldering, if you have mastered it. Before painting, degrease the metal and apply a primer suitable for metal — without it the paint does not hold on smooth photo-etch. Fit the fenders only after the hull has been assembled and cleaned up, because every later intervention nearby will damage them. If you want to suggest wear from use, make the deformations while the part is still loose, before gluing.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of armored equipment in 1:35 scale with experience of photo-etch
  • Builders who are bothered by the thickness of plastic fenders
  • Anyone interested in a realistic suggestion of deformation and wear

This is an accessory to a model, not a kit in its own right. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, please check that the set matches your kit.

FAQ

It is not. This is a set of photo-etched parts that are fitted into a plastic model you already own. The model itself is not included in the package.

The number of parts is given in the instructions for the set. Please check the contents against the instructions once they arrive.

Sets of photo-etch are designed for a particular kit and usually do not fit another one. Before buying, please check that the set matches your model.

We recommend a bending tool or at least two razor blades, a sharp scalpel and superglue. Without a clean bend, photo-etch loses its main strength.
