An extensive detailing set from the manufacturer Very Fire intended for the kit of the British heavy cruiser HMS Cornwall in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. It is not a ship model: the set serves to replace and supplement the parts of the basic kit where injected plastic cannot keep to the thickness and fineness of the real thing. Without the corresponding kit it cannot be used.
The HMS Cornwall was a British heavy cruiser of interwar construction, belonging to the numerous County class. Ships of this class had a high freeboard, three funnels and a main armament of 203 mm guns in twin turrets. They were built with long range in mind and were deployed to protect sea routes. The Cornwall was sunk on 5 April 1942 in the Indian Ocean during an attack by Japanese carrier aircraft. The silhouette of the ship with its long deck and broken-up superstructures gives a detailing set a great deal of scope, because the railings, platforms and deck fittings are necessarily simplified in plastic.
Work the set in as you go; go through in advance which plastic parts have to be removed before you glue the hull and the superstructures together. Bend the photo-etched parts on a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is crisp and even, and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a piece of wire in small doses. Degrease and prime the metal parts before painting. Paint the decks and the hull before you fit the railings and ladders, otherwise you will not reach the lower surfaces. Work over a surface with a raised edge and count on a markedly longer build than a model built straight from the box.
The set is an accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
