An add-on detail set in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter, intended to improve and sharpen a plastic model of the American aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1). Take note: it is not a stand-alone kit of the ship but a set of add-on parts to be used with the basic plastic Langley model from the same maker. The set usually holds etched parts, a laser-cut wooden deck with a matching masking template and an anchor chain. Check the exact contents of the package on the packaging.
USS Langley was the first aircraft carrier of the US Navy, converted in the 1920s from a collier. Her wooden flight deck and broken superstructures are an ideal subject for refining the detail. Etched parts replace the coarser plastic sections (railings, gratings, fittings) and a laser-cut wooden deck gives the model a realistic surface that plastic cannot manage. The set thus moves a basic kit closer to display quality.
Separate the etched parts with a sharp knife on a mat and bend them over a metal ruler or in a bending tool, and glue them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). First lay the wooden deck in place dry, check the fit and only then glue it; use the masking template supplied for painting the wood. Working with etch calls for patience and fine tools.
This is an accessory to a model, not a stand-alone model. The basic kit of the ship, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
