An injection-molded plastic kit of the German U-23 coastal submarine of type IIB in 1:400 scale from Mirage Hobby. The small scale gives a slender, collector's model; it is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The type II boats were small coastal submarines of the Kriegsmarine, nicknamed canoes for their size. The IIB version was a slightly lengthened variant with greater range. These submarines served above all in the early part of the war and in coastal waters, and later mainly for training. U-23 belonged to this type.
The hull with its smooth surfaces calls for careful cleaning up of the seam line. We recommend putting the model on a stand and painting it with an airbrush; a darker gray naval scheme with a distinct waterline is typical. Glue the small parts of the conning tower carefully. Lay the decals on a gloss base and fix them with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
