A kit of the British interwar Fairey Flycatcher carrier fighter biplane in 1:48 scale, in the late floatplane version.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fairey Flycatcher was a single-seat carrier fighter biplane of the Fleet Air Arm. It served in the interwar period, that is at a time when the decks of aircraft carriers were still finding their shape, and it was one of the types that could be fitted with wheels or with floats. It is precisely the floatplane version, and in its late variant, that this kit covers; the word Metal in the name distinguishes this version within the line.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. A biplane makes the greatest demands on the bracing wires between the wings and on the aligned seating of the struts, so it pays to glue the upper wing only after dry-fitting. The actual material of the parts and the recommended glue are given in the manufacturer's instructions; whatever they are made of, wash and degrease the parts before painting.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest so that the shape of the edge is not damaged. The floatplane version does not stand on wheels, so a stand or a base is useful for displaying it. Mark the waterline on the floats with thin tape first and check it from a distance.
It will suit modelers with experience of biplanes and an interest in British naval aviation between the wars. The build is not one of the quickest, but the result is a type that is not often seen in display cases.
The package contains the kit. Paints, glue and thinner are not included, unless stated otherwise.
