A basic masking set 1:48 for the angular cockpit glazing of this American attack helicopter, usable for the A, D and E versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Apache cockpit is made up of flat panes joined by heavy frames. Flat glass does not throw confusing reflections around and does not distort the view, which makes work close to the ground easier for the crew sitting one above the other. For the modeler that is good news, because a flat area is noticeably easier to mask than a complex curve.
The prototype flew in the middle of the 1970s and the machine entered squadron service in 1986. The A version was the basic one, the D received the characteristic radar fairing above the rotor head for finding targets, and the latest E brought more powerful engines and a reworked rotor drive.
The lowest level concentrates on the cockpit glazing and its framing. Because the canopy hardly changes across the versions mentioned, a single package serves for all three.
The armament consists of a turreted cannon under the nose slaved to the movement of the pilot head, plus unguided rockets and anti-tank missiles on the wing pylons. It is precisely that combination that made it the most widespread Western-built attack helicopter.
First spray the interior shade of the frames so that no clear plastic shows through in the finished cockpit, and only then move on to the top color of the fuselage. The low-set side panes deserve attention, because it is through them that the pilot watches the ground when flying above the treetops.
