This is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory. The set contains exhaust nozzles cast in resin in 1:48 scale, intended for models of the Phantom II fighter in the J and S versions. On this type the nozzles are among the most prominent details of the rear end, and the plastic parts from ordinary kits tend to be thick-walled and only suggested; a resin casting offers a thin edge and internal structure that is visible from behind. The manufacturer also carries a variant for the older Phantom versions in its catalog, so take care to choose the nozzles that correspond to your version.
The Phantom II was built in a number of versions that differed among other things in their powerplants and with them in the external form of the exhaust section. The nozzles are therefore not interchangeable between versions, and a mismatch can be seen on a finished model. The J and S versions are related: the S came about through the modernization of older machines, so the same solution of the rear end applies to both. Check which particular subject you are building against period photographs.
First wash the parts in warm soapy water, so that no mold release from the mold is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw and finish the surface wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Nozzles are easier to paint separately, off the model: a base in a dark metallic shade, then metallic shades applied in thin, irregular coats and complemented by heat tinting toward the edge. Darken the inside of the nozzle and bring the ribs out with a fine dry brush. Before gluing it in finally, try the fit dry: on some kits the opening in the rear end has to be opened up.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
