Photo-etched grilles for the Sd.Kfz. 182 King Tiger with the Porsche turret in 1:48 scale from Aber. The metal parts replace the solid plastic grilles of the engine compartment with cut-through mesh.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Aber, intended for models of the Sd.Kfz. 182 King Tiger heavy tank in the variant with the early turret known as the Porsche turret. It holds the grilles of the cooling and intake openings at the rear of the hull. It is not a model of the tank but a detail accessory for improving one.
The Sd.Kfz. 182, known as the Tiger II or King Tiger, was the heaviest German tank to see series service in the Second World War. The early examples carried a rounded turret, which in modeling practice became known as the Porsche turret, while the later production machines had a Henschel turret. The cooling openings on the engine deck were covered by fine metal grilles, under which the fans and the inner structure are visible.
Cut or sand away the blanked-off plastic grilles, level the openings and only then seat the etched parts. Etched mesh is open, so it pays to spray the space beneath it a dark color, or else to suggest the fans. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue around the edge, degreasing the metal beforehand and spraying it with a base coat for metals. Paint fine mesh in thin coats so that the openings do not fill in.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
