Masking set 1:48 P-51D/P-51K, Mustang Mk.IV from the manufacturer Peewit is an accessory for covering the glazing of a model during spraying. It is not a kit of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set in 1:48 scale for the North American Mustang fighter aircraft in the late P-51D and P-51K variants, which in British service were designated Mustang Mk.IV. The set holds pre-cut masking shapes for the glazing and is used at the moment when the model is built and is being prepared for painting.
The late Mustang differs from the earlier versions above all in its cut-down rear fuselage and its one-piece bubble canopy. It is precisely this canopy that makes masking different from most fighters of the period: it is a large, continuously curved surface almost without frames, so a mask has to follow the curvature in two directions and must not lift at the edge. What is left after that is only the short windshield, which on the contrary has straight frames and armored glass. The difference between the P-51D and the P-51K lay mainly in the propeller used; the outline of the cockpit stayed the same.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry. Lay the mask in the middle of the curve and press outward toward the edges, so that no fold forms anywhere. Smooth the edge thoroughly; on a curved canopy that is where paint creeps under most often. Spray the color of the frames, then the primer and the camouflage or bright metal last. On Mustangs with a bare metal finish the cleanness of an edge is particularly visible, because a polished surface forgives nothing. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried.
This is an accessory for building. The kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the package. Check the match with your kit beforehand.
